Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how SIM DAD LLC (“SIM DAD,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information in connection with the Lector desktop application and the Lector website at uselector.app. Lector is a local Markdown editor with text-to-speech that runs entirely on your machine.
1. Information the Application Collects
Lector processes all documents and audio entirely on your local machine. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your documents, text content, audio output, voice profiles, or usage data.
The only information transmitted from the application is during license key activation, which includes:
- Your email address (as provided during purchase)
- A device identifier (used to enforce the activation limit)
This activation data is processed by Gumroad on behalf of SIM DAD LLC. No other data leaves your machine through the application.
2. Information the Website Collects
The Lector website at uselector.app may collect the following information:
- Email address. If you voluntarily subscribe to our waitlist or mailing list, your email address is received via a Cloudflare Worker form endpoint and stored in our Google Workspace inbox. We do not currently use a third-party email service provider; if that changes, this policy will be updated and existing subscribers will be notified.
- Analytics data — We use Google Analytics (GA4, measurement ID: G-MVV710W59L) to understand website traffic. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect anonymized usage data such as pages visited, time on site, and referral source. Analytics cookies are only set after you provide consent through the cookie banner.
3. No Telemetry or Cloud Processing
Lector does not include any telemetry, crash reporting, or usage analytics. All text editing, Markdown rendering, and text-to-speech processing happens 100% locally on your device. No document content or audio data is ever sent to SIM DAD LLC or any third party.
4. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Gumroad — Payment processing and license key management. Gumroad processes your purchase transaction and manages license activation. Their privacy policy is available at gumroad.com/privacy.
- Cloudflare. Form-handling Worker for waitlist and contact form submissions. The Worker receives your email address and forwards it to our Google Workspace inbox; Cloudflare does not retain submission contents beyond the time needed to forward them. Their privacy policy is available at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
- Google Workspace. Storage of waitlist and contact form submissions in our Gmail inbox. Their privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.
- Google Analytics — Website analytics only (not in the desktop application). Consent-required. Their privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
License activation data is retained for as long as your license is active. Email addresses collected through the mailing list are retained until you unsubscribe or request removal.
To request deletion of your personal data, contact us at support@simdadllc.com. We will process your request within 30 days.
6. Data Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the limited personal data we collect. Because Lector processes all content locally, your documents and audio never leave your device and are protected by your own system’s security.
7. Children’s Privacy
Lector is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us at support@simdadllc.com and we will promptly delete it.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Your continued use of Lector after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
9. Governing Law
This Privacy Policy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
